Spirit Tree

Splitting tree rounds is an essential task on our property but when I was given such a strong icon as the left hand panel I dropped my axe and splitter tool and went to work with my camera and tripod. Yes, this starting point is a straight image.

Over winter the idea of making a growing tree – or spirit became a reality.
In the following summer we were away on a road trip and learned that Matt, the tree feller who has cut this tree down, had died. My triptych edition was released as a memorial to him and sold out in a gallery show in the autumn.

The edition for the right hand image only is still open.
